The BEV in a Box Directory System was built in conjunction with the county community network sites as part of the TOP project. It is based on the functions of the original BEV Directory System, part of the Blacksburg Electronic Village web site. It has an LDAP back-end and is built using PHP templates. The directory pages were designed to be plugged into any site. Currently, one set of code is being used by the 5 community network sites discussed in the community web site section, yet the "look and feel" of each individual site is adhered to completely. The purpose of the directory system is to allow users in each county to register with their county community network, where they can then publish yellow-page-like listings for their community organizations and/or businesses. These listings are free, and are controlled and maintained by the user. Additionally, the directory system includes a sign-up procedure for a free web site incubator program and help documentation related to this program. I coded and designed most of the BEV in a Box Directory System interface, assisted by feedback from others on the team. PHP functions that interacted with the LDAP back-end were provided to me. The BEV in a Box Community Directory System can be seen in action on any of the community network sites listed in the community web site section. Developed with: BBEdit. Note: These screen shots are shown without any headers or footers to demonstrate that they can be plugged into any site. |
